In these unusual times we are making plans while recognizing that we may need to change course at any point. The Guild is dedicated to bringing you performances, volunteer opportunities and workshops throughout the coming year and are excited to find new ways to connect with our community.
In response to limited indoor seating constraints we have built a performance space outdoors behind the Guild Hall where we’ve already begun hosting comedy, music and play readings. We’ve called our kick off series ‘Round Back and are thrilled with the response from audiences eager to take in live performance!
If our best laid plans come together and the pandemic cooperates, we continue with a small but mighty roster of plays throughout the year. These plays, all helmed by local directors will feature small casts, micro designs and small audiences with cabaret seating. We are calling these small productions our Nimble Series.
In the spring of 2021 we are excited to partner with Gwaandak Theatre to bring you Dreary and Izzy by Ntlaka’pamux playwright Tara Beagan. We may present this beautiful production indoors or, if we are still challenged with seating constraints we will bring this funny, heartwarming play to our outdoor theatre venue.
Throughout the year look for workshops at The Guild, hosted by local designers, directors and improvisers. We are beginning with workshops for small groups this summer and fall.
In addition to our mainstage productions, The Guild produces an annual series of comedy shows with headliners from Canadian comedy hotspots. These headliners share the stage with talented local comedians.
This season we will be working with local comedians to bring you the funniest people in the territory. Our comedy season begins with an all-star roster of female comedians as part of our ‘Round Back series. Look for more small scale comedy shows throughout the winter.
In the tradition of story times in larger cities around the world, The Guild is offering Whitehorse youngsters a Drag Queen Story Time. Using her skills as an Early Childhood Educator, Jolene Queen Sloan brings a magical afternoon of storytime for children in Yukon.
